Rustington Museum: relocation and redisplay of the museum

Rustington Parish Council were offered in 2017 the opportunity to co-locate the museum with the tourist information centre and a community hall by Store Properties (a local developer with family links to Rustington) to a town centre location. The developer planned to pay for the refurbishment of the building providing areas in the building suitable for the needs of each.

To assist the Parish Council with fit-out of the exhibition gallery to museum specifications we were appointed to produce a building specification to Museum Accreditation Standards and best practice. We worked closely with the developer and the Council to ensure the building was fit-for-purpose.

As a result of this piece of work we were asked to develop and write a funding application to the Heritage Lottery Fund Our Heritage to support the redisplays in the new venue. Working with a graphic designer we produced a concept design and led community consultation to inform the layout and focus of the new interpretation and the development of a varied community engagement programme of activities.

The funding application of £71,400 was successful, and since November 2018 we have been project managing the relocation and redisplay of the museum.
