Chichester Community Development Trust: Graylingwell chapel activity plan
The Heritage at the Heart of Graylingwell Project seeks to restore and reopen the Grade II listed Graylingwell Chapel as a vibrant multi-purpose community hub that will connect its past to the present through displays and activities. Led by Chichester Community Development Trust in partnership with West Sussex Record Office and The Novium Museum, the project will tell the story of the former Graylingwell Hospital, a psychiatric institution, that closed down in 2001 leaving the Chapel its only remaining building accessible to the public.
We worked collaboratively with local community organisations, individuals and the heritage partners on the development of the Activity Plan to support the stage two HLF application.
The programme of activity is inspired by the pioneering approach to mental health at Graylingwell Hospital. We built a programme that focussed on the history of the Hospital and mental health as well as the ways in which engagement with heritage can support health and well-being.
