Chichester Community Development Trust (CCDT) awarded by National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) £1.3m for the restoration and redevelopment of Graylingwell Chapel.

The Heritage at the Heart of Graylingwell project is a partnership project with local heritage organisations,  West Sussex Record Office and The Novium. Bringing together for the first time archival documents, hospital records, photographs and oral testimony to tell the stories of the patients, staff, and the wider Graylingwell community. A unique opportunity for the story of Graylingwell Hospital to be told in a building closely linked to the care of patients. The histories of asylums and the stories of the people connected to them remain largely untold at the original sites, with most converted to housing with little reference to their former use.

The funding will also deliver a multi-faceted activity programme for the growing population of the area. Designed to complement the exhibitions and displays in the Chapel and make the important link between the sites’s past and the current day focus on health and wellbeing.

Sonia Rasbery +Co provided extensive heritage expertise at all stages of the project’s development. Our case studies detail the extent and range of the professional services we supplied.
